The Money Fix - Documentary
Alan Rosenblith is a musician, currency activist and permaculture enthusiast.
His new documentary, The Money Fix, presents a strong case that our money system itself causes many of the seemingly impossible problems we face: Poverty, unemployment, debt, etc. He shows how money is created in a central bank system and then shows the ridiculousness of the debt-based system that we labor under. The film earns points for creative use of simple computer graphics. I really enjoyed watching the banks shoot money into people's heads, to site one example.
Rosenblith does a great job of including some of the most advanced thinkers on alternative and complementary currencies: Bernard Lietaer, Elisabet Sahtouris, Hazel Henderson, L. Hunter Lovins, Michael Linton, Riane Eisler, Robert Pollin, Susan Witt, Thomas H. Greco... Noam Chomsky also weighs in on the propaganda aspects of our central-bank debt based money system. The interviews make up some of the best parts of the movie.
The final section, Solutions, will be especially interesting to Madison Hours users and members. Our system falls between the paper fiat currencies and the mutual exchange systems that are profiled.
Overall, this is well worth watching whether you are new to "money" issues or an old hand. It offers much for both to think about and advances the cause of becoming a money/currency literate society. Money can be a tool instead of a impediment and this film reminds us of that and points the way. It is up to us in our local communities to make it happen.
The very last quote of the movie really inspired me. Bernard Lietaer says: "I think we can use money as a tool - as a servant to what we want to become, rather than be victims. Time to become aware. Time to have a consiencence of our potential. And I think our potential as humans is infinate. Let's not limit ourselves through the medium of exchange. Time to wake up."
Yes, Time to wake up. Set aside some time to watch this movie. Whether you are new to the topic or already familiar with the basics you will find much of interest. The cast of thinkers, alone, is well worth it. The fun graphics and old time movie clips help it move along at a good pace.
